What does “holistic health” actually mean?
The term “holistic” according the dictionary means the following: a. Emphasizing the importance of the whole and the interdependence of its parts. b. Concerned with wholes rather than analysis or separation into parts. So when we talk about holistic health, we are really taking about health not only within the physical body, but also of the mind, emotions and spiritual aspects as a whole. You see your body can have an absence of illness or disease and still leave you tired, stressed, achy and with all sorts of other symptoms which are generally ignored and left alone. As holistic practitioners, we aim to treat all of you, every aspect as a part of the others so that we can bring you whole health, or rather “holistic” health.
What is the difference between complementary and alternative therapies?
Complementary therapies are defined as those which do not diagnose conditions, but work in harmony with other treatments both conventional and complementary to help you heal more completely than without them. Examples of complementary therapies are massage, Reiki and reflexology. Alternative therapies are defined as being able to diagnose and treat and an example of this would be herbal medicine.
Does any of it actually work and how?
All complementary therapies work to bring balance to your body, mind and emotions. They may all seem very different (i.e. reflexology works on the feet, Reiki is a hands on healing system) but essentially they all use the concept of bringing balance to energy which flows within your body. This energy is present within every living thing inside the universe (including the Earth and other planets) and is pivotal in ensuring that everything works just as it should. When this energy is out of balance we do not feel well, sometimes without being able to point a finger at exactly why. Complementary therapists seek to bring balance and therefore health and well being to our clients through the techniques we use.
Is there any proof it works ?
Unfortunately, in times gone past, complementary therapies have been largely ignored when it comes to research, probably because it is hard to truly analyse what someone thinks and feels effectively and it is usually in these areas where we help. There is some good research now coming into mainstream areas and it is reasonably easy to find online which goes a long way towards proving our work actually does have positive effects on health.
How do I know which therapy is right for me ?
There will always be therapies which you find more acceptable and appealing than others and for the most part we would encourage you to try those you are drawn to for whatever reason. However, if you really don’t know what to choose or have concerns about the suitability of a treatment you would like to try, then please contact us and we’ll advise you on which treatment might be best for you.
How can White Rose benefit me ?
White Rose can help you in many different ways, from easing achy muscles to helping conventional treatments do what they are meant to be doing. It will depend on your individual situation as to how exactly we can help you and this will be discussed with you at your first appointment. We always carry out a full health and lifestyle consultation before we treat you to ensure that we plan your treatment to suit every aspect of you and your life.
Are all therapists and teachers fully qualified, insured and reputable?
Here at White Rose we take professionalism very seriously and as such we can assure you that every therapist and teacher that works with us are both qualified and experienced to the highest standards. We keep copies of each therapist’s certificates, professional qualifications and insurance, so you can ask to view them at any time, even when they are not there.
What can I do to ensure I get the best from my treatment?
The essential key to ensuring you get the best from your treatment is to follow the instructions of your therapist when they advise you of aftercare. Aftercare can mean anything from including more water in your diet to exercises you can do at home and you can be assured that they would never give advice unless they were absolutely sure it is what you should be doing between treatments to get the most from the treatment you are undertaking.
